Shrimp Taco- $2.65

You know the little place on memorial next to Suntrust? For years it's been the place restaurants go to die, Get Sconed was the most recent victim. However, Oscar's Taco Shop has proven to not only be resilient, but incredibly successful.

Make sure to go either right before or right after the lunch rush, to ensure you won't be waiting in the look-at-how-awesome-we-are ordering line. I personally ordered the shrimp taco, a pretty vulnerable dish considering Murfreesboro's distance from the ocean.

In 2 minutes, I was face to face with a succulent beast of a taco. Citrusy, yet meaty, the shrimp taco boasts grilled shrimp, a cut of lime, pico de gaillo, and a secret sauce wrapped in a fresh corn tortilla. It was explosive with flavor. Each bite was equally savory. The lime is the crucial piece that sets off the dish like fireworks.

Overall, Oscar's shrimp taco is an affordable, tasty little reward. I'd recommend stopping by for lunch if you are anywhere close by. Enjoy!

It’s not easy to eat healthy on the go. From milkshakes to corndogs, most food that you can hold in your hand goes straight to your thighs. However, entrepreneurs John and Brandi Sevieri are committed to giving Murfreesboro residents a healthy alternative when eating on the run. John and Brandi Sevieri run the Smoothie King on Medical Center Parkway in Murfreesboro, and another branch in Smyrna. For readers that have been living under a rock for the past twenty years, Smoothie King is the country’s number one juice bar franchise. Not do they make delicious drinks, they makes drinks that are good for you.

That is the reason Smoothie King has become this week’s HobNob Spotlight. It’s not easy to make delicious beverages, but it seems to be impossible to make something that is tasty and also healthy. The Smoothie King franchise has stayed true to its original vision: To become THE healthy alternative to unhealthy food choices by providing a consistent, outstanding guest experience, great tasting nutritional smoothies and the highest quality nutritional products in a healthy, energetic environment. I know that sounds corny, but Smoothie King really does provide everything they claim to.

The franchise offers thirty-eight smoothies under 300 calories, and if calories aren’t the first thing on your mind, Smoothie King also offers a plethora of other ways to modify your drink. Looking to bulk up for the big game? Try Gladiator Protein Powder. It’s a low carb, low fat, low calorie meal replacement powder. Or maybe you have a long day ahead of you. Why not add Power-Fruit All-Day Energy Rapid Boost to your drink? It’s an all-natural, berry based energy supplement that provides a rapid boost to promote energy and alertness. Those are just a few of the options; Smoothie King also offers drinks to help you slim down, stay healthy, and get your daily doses of vitamins and minerals.

Everyone needs to make a commitment to their own health and nutrition, but that commitment doesn't have to take over your life. That’s why HobNob loves Smoothie King. They provide an easy way to stay healthy without breaking the bank or changing your lifestyle. So put down the burger and go see Brandi at Smoothie King. It might just be the easiest thing you’ve ever done to lead a healthier life.

It’s normal to dread going to the doctor’s office. Getting blood drawn while your doctor writes up a prescription for penicillin isn’t what most people call a good time. However, if that prescription is from a doctor at Middle Tennessee Medical Center, I urge you to take a trip to the hospitals “Our Daily Bread Café” before heading out to your car.

When most people think of hospital food, they think of that bowl of ice cream after their tonsils were out. The staff at Middle Tennessee Medical Center has taken the stereotypical hospital cafeteria and flipped it on its head. Located on the first floor of MTMC, Our Daily Bread Café offers one of the most diverse menus in all of Murfreesboro.

Visitors that enter the cafeteria will first come upon the Daily Special area. On my visit, the kitchen staff was preparing fresh batches of heavenly barbeque wings. Just beyond the Special, is the entree area where guests can pick a variety of dishes from Chicken Alfredo to Meatloaf. If those don’t appease your appetite, the café also offers slices of freshly made pizza, a deli selection of nine classic sandwiches, six hearty salads that range from fried chicken to cob, and home style meals from a juicy burger to a tasty grilled cheese. Don’t even get me started on the plethora of sides and desserts also available.

All of the food is priced a la cart, and the food is served to patrons by a smiling member of the MTMC kitchen staff. Our Daily Bread doesn’t want their guests to have to dish out their own food and wonder how many hands have touched the potato salad spoon before them. One of the biggest perks of this cafeteria is that the nutritional facts of each entrée are displayed on flat screens above each station. I don’t know of any buffet in town that lists the ingredients of their dishes out in the open. And don’t worry, the meals at MTMC are as healthy as they are delicious, so you won’t feel guilty when you pick up a serving of delicious banana pudding.

Our Daily Bread is setup to cater to all types of customers. If you are making an extended stay at the hospital, the cafeteria offers direct to room service. If you are looking to kill some time while you eat, the cafeteria has a spacious, clean, and comfortable eating area. Or, you could be like the police officer in line in front of me who was just stopping in to get some hot food to go.

Our Daily Bread is raising the bar for the quality of food you can find at your hospital. My Chicken Alfredo, breadsticks, chocolate pudding, and fountain drink were of a higher quality than most sit down restaurants. I highly encourage all HobNob readers to give this cafeteria a try next time they head down Medical Center Parkway, or find themselves visiting the doctor.
