This week's featured piece is going to be brief as HobNobMurfreesboro is getting ready for the 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway. Roll the Dice has been Murfreesboro's best kept secret for awhile now. A store that specializes in board games, Roll the Dice offers a unique environment to learn about, sample, and buy new and old games. it's the perfect option for the family that wants to spend time together and grow as a family.
Adam Kinder of Affordable Water, the lovely Lora and a few other friends met up at Roll the Dice one Saturday morning to try the highly recommended Dominion, a tried and true deck building game. Having never played a deck building game (think Magic, Gathering and Pokemon) I was naturally a little hesitant. These games have a sort of stigma about them.
Owner David Sieber got everything ready for us and patiently explained the rules while we took it all in. Basically, this equals that you can only play this card when you already have that card down. Make sense? Good!
Once we started playing, David continued to take time to stay with us and make sure we really understood the game before he went back to attending the store. We had a blast. It was time without electronics, without distraction and just friends hanging out enjoying ourselves. By the time we finished playing, we were all astonished to see that two hours had passed and we had all had a lot of fun.
Dominion is one of the oldest deck building games and you can get a starter pack from Roll the Dice for $45. It makes a great Christmas present for a friend or child that is perhaps looking for a new hobby. 2-6 can play at a time and if you just happen to fall in love, there are more expansions than you can shake a fist at.
If you aren't convinced yet, I encourage you to just go down to Roll the Dice yourself and take a look around. Mr Sieber would happily walk you through the game or anything else he has on the shelves. Have a favorite video game? The staff will check around to see if that same company has made a corresponding board game to match. Looking for a game someone told you about? Roll the Dice will find it for you, even if they have to order it. So get some friends together, get your family in the car and go down to Roll the Dice and find the perfect Christmas gift for someone or just splurge for yourself. I guarantee you will be surprised at how much fun you have. Enjoy!
I’ll be the first to admit it; I love technology. I love watching TV. I love roaming the internet. I love writing a hundred text messages a day. However, all the technology in the world can’t replace face to face interaction in the real world. There is something special about spending quality time with the people you love. No one knows this better than David and Kristen Seber, owners of Roll the Dice in Murfreesboro.
Roll the Dice is a tabletop gaming store that just opened in the heart of the boro. Offering board games, card games, and role playing games for people of all ages, Roll the Dice is all about having a good time with your family and friends.
Coming all the way from Colorado, David and Kristen are now sharing their love of tabletop games with Middle Tennessee. The store has only been open for 5 months, but is already has become the hub for all things tabletop in Rutherford County.
Roll the Dice is open from Tuesday-Sunday every week, and if you pay the store a visit you are sure to find a whole slew of people gathered around various tables playing all sorts of games. David and Kristen are dedicated to building a community, not just running a business.
Whether you are a game pro, or you are just looking for something to play at a party, David and Kristen are always ready to help you find the perfect game for you or your loved one. Roll the Dice’s game selection covers everything from classic trivia games, children’s games, zombie board games, Magic Cards, and fantasy pen and paper games.
The Seber’s are dedicated to making sure that every customer that walks into their store can find a game that they can enjoy for the rest of their lives. Roll the Dice is about games that are more engaging than just spinning a wheel or rolling a dice. A purchase from Roll the Dice will be out on the coffee table, not accumulating dust in a closet.
If you aren’t sure if a game that you’ve found is right for you, there is always someone around the store that is willing to crack open the box and play a few rounds. Roll the Dice even encourages you to try a game with your family before making a purchase. For just 1 dollar a night, you can rent a game to play with your friends. If you decide that you just can’t part with your rental, Roll the Dice will put your rental fee towards the price of your game.
Roll the Dice is located 215 Robert Rose Dr Ste F in Murfreesboro. If you like having a good time with friends, Roll the Dice is guaranteed to have a game you’ll enjoy. Roll the Dice also holds free gaming sessions weekly, so you can mingle with others around town while you enjoy a game of axis and allies.

BAM! POW! KRAKOOM!
The world of comic books and graphic novels is one that has always been filled with imaginative characters, dynamic action, gripping adventure, and lots and lots of color. For Chuck Cagle who owns Outer Limits Comics & Collectibles with his wife Barb, comics are a passion that started in his youth. It is a passion also shared by their son Chase Cagle along with fellow employee, and Magic The Gathering competition guru Steven Ardary. They have worked diligently since the Cagles’ purchase of the store in the summer of 2006 to create the atmosphere, not just of a comics shop, but a friendly, welcoming and safe community.
It is this sense of community that makes Outer Limits more to its patrons than a comics and game store. It makes it ‘their’ comics and game store. This is just how the Cagles want it, and if talking with some of the Outer Limits customers is any indication, they have succeeded with flying colors. Sitting in the store speaking with Outer Limits faithful, and regular Magic The Gathering players Quentin White and Justin Munn, they describe Chuck in tones usually reserved for family, and express that they have always been encouraged to think of Outer Limits as ‘their’ store. Each of them more than once use the word ‘home’ when describing their favorite place to buy their collectible card games and hang out with friends.
TRAGEDY STRIKES!
That emotional connection to Outer Limits was made poignantly clear to many on Saturday, January 22nd of 2011. In the wee hours of that morning, the familiar Outer Limits location at 1115 Memorial Boulevard was tragically struck by a devastating fire. The loss was near total. As one might imagine, the Cagles were absolutely in a state of shock, and many of the customers we spoke to affirmed that they were not the only ones.
At a recent meeting at the Cagles’ home, speaking with ‘Brain Trust’ members; Laughren Bauman, Lindsey Storey and Zach Lindsey, the level to which the loss of the store in January affected them was evident. Zach said he received a call about the event early on that Saturday morning, and immediately got dressed to join fiance’ Laughren to head over to Outer Limits to see what they could do. Lindsey Storey echoed the concern and talked about how surreal the whole thing seemed. The print article in Murfreesboro's Daily News Journal displayed the lonesome image of a single customer looking through the blackened windows of the store. Many members of the community have expressed their dismay while being told about the loss after the fact.
FEAR NOT INTREPID READER!
Outer Limits Comics & Collectibles is in the process of rising from those very ashes! Immediately, many of the patrons of Outer Limits came to Chuck toting things they wanted to donate to the cause; comics and graphic novels, vintage toys, even an Austrian Cavalry Saber! Out of compassion for the Cagles? Sure, but also because they want to see ‘their store’ thrive again. Chuck has been overwhelmed with the outpouring of good will, messages of support and offers of assistance from close to home and far away. Even from New York City and the likes of Geoff Johns, Chief Creative Officer of DC Comics!
TEMPORARY LOCATION THRIVES!
The store is operating again in a very temporary location at 620 S. Highland Ave. It is at the corner of S. Highland Ave. and Ash St., right across from Holloway High School on the South-East side of Murfreesboro in a little pink house right which Chuck and the Outer Limits faithful have affectionately dubbed ‘Club Pink’. Supplies of new comics are laid in, the walls are adorned with the latest of collectible toys, and Magic the Gathering and Yu-Gi-Oh play are ongoing. The space is small, but buzzes with friendly activity.
In all of this, the Outer Limits crew have remained thankful for the opportunity to have ‘Club Pink’ as a defacto headquarters during this transitional time. Chuck Cagle makes mention of the the owners of the little pink house on the front page of the Outer Limits web site saying “TREMENDOUS THANKS TO JACKIE AND PAT JAMES FOR THEIR HELP!! GOD BLESS YOU!” This gratitude has been heartfelt by Chuck and the rest of the store’s ‘owners’. With the recent reestablishment of phone service, and the ability to process credit/debit cards again, things are starting to feel a bit more normal for doing business, but will not be back to full rights until Outer Limits is in its permanent location. Until then, 'Club Pink' is a happy substitute.
THE IMMINENT RETURN...
Slain comic book characters never stay dead, and neither will Outer Limits! Chuck and his ‘Brain Trust’ have been working very hard preparing for the day quite soon when they will be back in their permanent location. They have plans for Outer Limits to come back stronger and better than ever, with some new product lines and expansion of some existing ones. All of that coupled with the new branding that accompanies this article, their plans for a new web site, and several other improvements are paving the way for the return of a Murfreesboro, TN favorite.
