Donations are still being accepted for the tornado victims near Birmingham, Ala., until 4 p.m. Friday at the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office at 940 New Salem Highway.

Contributors have donated non-perishable food, supplies and other items to the sheriff’s office Explorers Post 106.

Sgt. Mike House of the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said residents need cleaning supplies, mops, brooms, buckets, garbage bags, diapers, socks, underwear, plates, cups and non-perishable food.

Cpl. Scot Appleton, who is an Explorers’ co-advisor, said he expects to fill a 26-foot box trailer with supplies. Advisors and Explorers expect to deliver the items to Birmingham residents Saturday.
