So, you think you have a lot going on? Not only is Michelle Stepp the Associate Director of Alumni Relations at MTSU but she is also the ultimate party planner, a nationally recognized blogger, a wife, a mother and this week’s local.

Michelle grew up in Kentucky, and although she is an alumnus of UK, Michelle now holds a different blue close to her heart. Since 1998, Michelle has been helping MTSU graduates stay involved with their university.

“I love being able to bring people back to MTSU and see their reaction to all the changes,” explained Michelle. “We now have more alum involvement than we’ve ever had, and they are more proud of their university than they’ve ever been.”

If she isn’t organizing a tailgating event or a golf tournament, Michelle is busy building an online community that allows grads to reconnect. She is constantly thinking of ways to keep former students involved with MTSU, so one day their children will want to attend.

The Alumni Association’s next big event, as in a once in a century event, is their MTSU Centennial Gala to be held at Embassy Suites on September 9, 2011. Although the event is a year away, tickets will be going on sale soon and are limited. Very few sponsorships are available, but you can contact Michelle for more information at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

“I love organizing big events like the upcoming gala,” commented Michelle, “but my true passion is in creating special occasions with a more intimate setting.”

After working at MTSU for a while, Michelle officially adopted the title of “go-to party planner.” From showers to divorce parties, Michelle was being asked how to make favors, pick a theme and basically how to create a good time for all. With so many ideas and much advice to share, she decided it was time to put it all in one place.

Everydaycelebrating.com was launched over two years ago and has since become well known in the blogging world. It focuses on party ideas, but more importantly it inspires us to find simple things to celebrate every day. Whether it is completing a marathon, little Susie using the potty or completing another day of no smoking, Michelle’s philosophy is to recognize those special moments that make life great.

Recently, the blog has been focusing on how to find hidden treasures in your local thrift stores. Michelle shows you what to look for and how with a few adjustments you can have a stunning frame, vase or whatever else you need.

Michelle lives in La Vergne with her husband and 3 year old son (who must have the best birthday parties in the neighborhood.) As you can see from her photo, kindly provided by Ken Robinson Photography, this fun loving spirit enjoys anything university related.

“My favorite thing about Murfreesboro is being such a big part of a college town,” she said. “I still cry every year when the MTSU band plays for the first time.”
