Murfreesboro, TN - “The best in town.” Many people in Murfreesboro make the claim to the best this or even bester that. Ya, I said bester. So did they. Some people even try to manufacture awards based on their own agendas about the best of whatever. But hardly anyone around can deny that Demos’ Restaurant does get to lay claim on a handful of those titles. For those of you who have grown up under a rock (you know, the one next to the hard place,) Demos’ sits on Broad, west of Old Fort and Medical Center, near the old bowling alley.
Meagan Flippin of the United Way joined me at Demos’ on Wednesday at 1:00. After a five minute waiting list, we were seating right about the middle of the restaurant. It was very busy, but Demos’ has a sort of ‘working machine’ aura about it that is comforting. We were greeted quickly and very friendly. She knew the menu and was very informative. I felt as though I was genuinely appreciated there. To the persuasion of Meagan, we ordered soup. She was so very right. This was really, really good. I can’t really describe it. Guess that’s not doing my job, but you really have to try it. Very flavorful.
The food came in twelve minutes. Hot and steamy, we were each able to enjoy our meals. The blackened chicken was just great. I cook chicken all the time and know the delicate balance between dry chicken and salmonella. The alfredo sparked the blackened chicken in a way that only tender loving care can do. The smell, the texture, the flavor, the taste are all worthy of their own volume in the encyclopedias.
Again, most of us know about Demos’ already. If you do not, you have really been missing out. This is part of the thread of our culture in Murfreesboro. By eating here, you get the consistency of a national chain restaurant mixed with the taste and quality of a mom-and-pop. You can eat here on a date night or a business lunch. Either way, you will be pleased. I would even eat here alone just to have a great experience with a sweet tea and their famous and delicious garlic bread. Enjoy!
