Customers at Toot’s South will enjoy “good food and fun” with a school resource officer crooning Elvis tunes at the Wings and Rings fund-raiser for Special Olympics April 5.
School Resource Officer Dick Peach will sing Elvis songs on request along with “Happy Birthday” from 5 to 8 p.m. during the Wings and Rings event for Special Olympics. Peach and other SROs will help Toot’s servers wait on customers.
Customers will be asked to donate funds for the annual Special Olympics field and track meet Thursday, April 12 at MTSU’s soccer stadium, said Special Olympics co-chair Lou Paschall.
About 350 individuals with intellectual disabilities from Murfreesboro and Rutherford schools and other educational programs will compete in the games beginning with the opening ceremony at 10 a.m.
Funds raised from Wings and Rings will be used to pay bus drivers to transport the athletes along with ribbons and lunches for the athletes.
“We need to raise funds to make sure we provide for our athletes,” Paschall said. “We hope to see community support of our athletes. We appreciate Toot’s and the SROs for everything they do.”
Peach, who is the SRO for Smyrna Elementary and Smyrna Primary schools, said he will sing the Elvis songs and even “Happy Anniversary” on request. And he will tell some jokes.
This is strictly family-oriented and we welcome families to join us in this fund-raising event for some special people, the SRO said. All donations are appreciated to help the Special Olympians.
“We appreciate owner Wade Hays and the Toot’s employees for their hospitality and their support of Special Olympics,” Peach said. “We’re happy to have them as partners. They definitely have good food and fun at Toot’s.”

Thanksgiving is a time for counting blessings and gearing up for Christmas presents.
But for many Rutherford County children, the holiday season is just a dream. Because of the financial crunch, many families can’t afford to buy presents.
That’s why Sheriff Robert F. Arnold started the national Shop with a Cop program for about 20 to 25 school students up to age 13.
The Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office will raise funds to pay for a Dec. 3 shopping trip to Kmart, the national sponsor, said Deputy Jim Noe, the crime prevention coordinator. A deputy will coordinate each child who will select their own Christmas presents.
“We’d like them to shop for themselves but they may want to get something for their parents,” Noe said.
To raise funds for the Christmas gifts, Sheriff Arnold, school resource officers and other deputies will serve customers and wait tables from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 22 at Toot’s at the South Church Street restaurant. Donations from diners will help fund the shopping trips.
“We appreciate Toot’s partnering with us so children in our community will have a special Christmas,” Arnold said. “We hope citizens will open their hearts and give generously for these children.”
Special Olympian Phillip Brown clapped his hands in delight celebrating his 18th birthday with a serenade of “Happy Birthday” by Rutherford County School Resource Officers led by crooner SRO Dick Peach.
Brown celebrated his birthday surrounded by family and friends at the “Wings and Rings” event at Toot’s restaurant in Smyrna to raise funds for 200 Special Olympians competing in a bowling tournament Oct. 27 at Smyrna Bowling Lanes. The funds will be used to pay bus drivers to transport Rutherford County and Murfreesboro schools’ students to the tournament.
Toot’s donated $400 and diners contributed $2,100 to allow intellectually disabled students compete in athletic competitions. Rutherford County sheriff’s SROs sang songs and visited with students and families. Peach serenaded diners with his famous Elvis renditions.
Peach, who revels in entertaining, distributed photographs of himself that he autographed. He took requests for songs and sang “Happy Anniversary” to several couples. His wife, Cecilia, underwent surgery before the event. Family members stayed with her while Peach attended the fund-raiser.
SROs from around the county joined Peach in singing birthday songs and visiting with both present and former students.
Special Olympics co-chair John Harris said the donations will ensure Special Olympians will compete in athletic events.
“This was remarkable,” Harris said. “We want to thank the staff at Toot’s, the SROs and Sheriff Robert Arnold for allowing us to come out. This has been a huge night for Special Olympics.”
Rachel Hunter, the Smyrna Toot’s general manager, said the event brings the staff closer to the community.
“Giving back to the community like this gives me goosebumps,” Hunter said. “These children are a blessing to all of us. Making their lives better is the biggest gift I’ve ever had to give back.”
Special Olympics co-chair Lou Paschall said the funds raised at Toot’s will pay for the bowling tournament costs.
“We are thrilled,” Paschall said.

Murfreesboro, TN - Oh...WOW... That's probably enough to finish the review. I have NEVER given a completely perfect score to a restaurant. When it comes to incredible food and a beautiful environment for the perfect date, B. McNeel's is one angel wing shy of paradise.
Lora and I rolled onto the sqaure around 6:00pm on Friday evening. The Restaurant (look for the big red "DINNER" sign) was about half full. Real brick walls, greenery an plenty of artwork give B.McNeel's a rustic and unique feel. We were seated right away because we had a reservation. We began with appetizers and let me give you the answer before you ask, the Spicy Coconut Shrimp is to die for. My taste buds are still leaping for joy.
At 6:30, I ordered the Jack Daniels New York Strip, normally listed at $21. The menu itself has entrees from $14-$29.50, so choose well! I believe you'll be pleasantly satisfied regardless of what you choose. For a side, I ordered the Crab and Corn Bisque Soup.
It took 25 minutes to prepare our meals. Plenty of time to resist finger licking from the the shrimp. The plate put in front of me was truly a piece of art. Being from the South, I know how to truly appreciate a steak. This was just beyond superb. With great preparation and the Jack Daniels Sauce, each bite was a little victory dance for flavor. Each cut was: perfectly cooked, delicate to the tongue, and absolutely delectable. The Crab and Corn soup was equally breathtaking, mixed in between bites of steak and resisting running into my fantasy world.
After finishing with a $5 Key Lime Pie, Lora and I both agreed that this is the best date night in Murfreesboro, hands down. At any moment, when the question arises of "what do you want to do tonight?" Seriously consider putting B. McNeel's on the agenda. I guarantee a picturesque evening with an encore performance of leftover. Enjoy!

Murfreesboro, TN - Although not new to the middle Tennessee area, Sam’s All American Sports Grill will be the latest new addition to Stones River Mall’s outdoor lifestyle promenade, The Shops at Stones River. The family-friendly restaurant will mirror that of the original Sam's All American Sports Grill concept, opened by Sam Sanchez and Al Thomas in Hillsboro Village in 2000. Boasting an energetic sports atmosphere, customers will find plenty of televisions to watch their favorite sports teams, along with a tasty menu featuring a selection of burgers, hot sandwiches, salads, appetizers, pizzas and other specialty items.
Customers can also enjoy a non-smoking atmosphere, a reasonably priced menu and generous portions. “Our emphasis is on offering a unique sports grill atmosphere with unusually good food,” says Thomas. “We are able to pull from our combined 50 years of restaurant experience and our extensive recipe knowledge to produce menu items that are superior to the average sports grill,” adds Sanchez.
Some of the delectable menu items will include hand-battered chicken tenders, slow cooked barbeque baby back ribs, house-made soups, salads with dressing prepared from scratch daily, as well as a great selection of burgers, oven-baked sub sandwiches, an array of pizzas, sweet and spicy buffalo wings and grilled chicken dishes marinated in a variety of flavors.
Thomas and Sanchez, also co-owners of Sperry’s Restaurants located in Cool Springs and Belle Meade, plan to begin construction soon in anticipation of an early fall opening. Sam’s All American Sports Grill will be open seven days a week for lunch and dinner.
