Murfreesboro, TN - Oh...WOW... That's probably enough to finish the review. I have NEVER given a completely perfect score to a restaurant. When it comes to incredible food and a beautiful environment for the perfect date, B. McNeel's is one angel wing shy of paradise.
Lora and I rolled onto the sqaure around 6:00pm on Friday evening. The Restaurant (look for the big red "DINNER" sign) was about half full. Real brick walls, greenery an plenty of artwork give B.McNeel's a rustic and unique feel. We were seated right away because we had a reservation. We began with appetizers and let me give you the answer before you ask, the Spicy Coconut Shrimp is to die for. My taste buds are still leaping for joy.
At 6:30, I ordered the Jack Daniels New York Strip, normally listed at $21. The menu itself has entrees from $14-$29.50, so choose well! I believe you'll be pleasantly satisfied regardless of what you choose. For a side, I ordered the Crab and Corn Bisque Soup.
It took 25 minutes to prepare our meals. Plenty of time to resist finger licking from the the shrimp. The plate put in front of me was truly a piece of art. Being from the South, I know how to truly appreciate a steak. This was just beyond superb. With great preparation and the Jack Daniels Sauce, each bite was a little victory dance for flavor. Each cut was: perfectly cooked, delicate to the tongue, and absolutely delectable. The Crab and Corn soup was equally breathtaking, mixed in between bites of steak and resisting running into my fantasy world.
After finishing with a $5 Key Lime Pie, Lora and I both agreed that this is the best date night in Murfreesboro, hands down. At any moment, when the question arises of "what do you want to do tonight?" Seriously consider putting B. McNeel's on the agenda. I guarantee a picturesque evening with an encore performance of leftover. Enjoy!
We are constantly bombarded with people who try to tell us about the new latest and greatest cure-all drug on the market. Diet pills, vitamin supplements, and new eating crazes all claim to be miracle cures for the human race. The truth is, when it comes to your health, there are no short cuts. To live the healthiest life you can, you have to get back to basics. You have to take care of yourself, and you have to know what your body needs. One of the things your body needs most is the exact thing our earth needs the most: Sunshine.
The Sun is what powers our world. It’s what heats this planet. The sun is what gives energy to the plants that we consume to live. It should come to no surprise that the same sunlight that powers the earth is an important ingredient to having a healthy body.
Vitamin D expert, Lyvonn Reese wants everyone in Middle Tennessee to know how important the Sun is to living a healthy life. Tuesday May 31st, Lyvonn will be delivering the final talk in Middle Tennessee Medical Center’s Her Health: Women’s Health Series. Her talk ,“What’s all this hoopla about Vitamin D?,” is starting at 7:30 am on the 31st and is all about, you guessed it, Vitamin D.
Lyvonn has noticed that over the years sunlight has gotten a pretty bad rap. The first thing people think of when they think of sunlight is Melanoma and Skin Cancer. They just ignore all of the positive benefits it has on the human body.
In fact, every single cell in the human body has a receptor for Vitamin D. When the NHL’s Chicago Blackhawk’s were struggling to win a game in 2009, Coach Jerome Bechard had all of his players tested for Vitamin D Deficiency. When the coach found out that his team was all suffering from severe Vitamin D Deficiency he knew they had to make a change. Over the next season the Blackhawks practiced outside only wearing shorts and shoulder pads, to help them absorb the Sun’s powerful nutrients. The next year the Chicago Blackhawks went all the way to win the Stanley Cup.
But Sunlight isn’t just good for Hockey players. Vitamin D provides everyone with a great way to keep ourselves healthy without a hefty pharmaceutical price tag. If you want to learn more about the benefits of Sunlight and Vitamin D exposure, head to MTMC on Tuesday the 31st for a free breakfast and a great talk with expert Lyvonn Reese.

Did you know that if you have had two or more blistering sunburns by age 10 your chances of developing skin cancer as an adult are greatly increased? In 2009 63,000 people were diagnosed with melanoma. Today, Melanoma is the fastest growing cancer around the world. Many people think that Melanoma only affects Caucasians, but Melanoma can affect men and women of all races and ages.
However, Melanoma is a preventable condition. May is national Melanoma Awareness Month and our friends at the Goco Center for Aesthetics offer a wide range of products to keep you and your family safe while you enjoy the Tennessee Summer.
The first line of defense against skin cancer is an effective sunscreen. While you can pick up a bottle of sunscreen at any drugstore, the quality of the product you are using is essential when it comes to protecting your skin.
The first thing you want to look at on a bottle of sunscreen is its SPF or sun protection factor. The SPF tells you exactly how long you are protected from UV rays. An SPF of 15 allows you to stay in the sun 15 times longer than normally recommended.
While SPF 15 may sound like plenty of protection, the rating is based on applying a very liberal amount of lotion every 90 minutes. If a person was to follow the exact directions on a bottle of sunscreen they would use half a bottle for just one day in the sun.
Luckily, Goco Center for Aesthetics offers more powerful products that really make a difference in the battle against skin cancer. For all over protection Obagi offers Sunshield SPF 50, a Zinc Oxide blend protection. This is a classic lotion that works to protect all skin types.
For an even more advanced protection, Goco Center for Aesthetics offers Colorescience mineral UV protection. Colorescience makes sun protection mineral sunscreen that provides high quality UV protection with Zinc Oxide and Titanium Dioxide. With absolutely zero dry time, all you have to do is apply the minerals, and then head out on your way.
Colorescience offers sun protection for all different complexions. You can choose a tone to add pigment to your skin or to match your natural color. Colorescience is a great item for both men and women. Golfers particularly enjoy the product because it allows them to protect their hands without the grease that some lotions produce.
When most people think about sun damage they think about days at the beach and parties at the lake. In reality, UV is a constant part of our lives. From sun shining in the office window to rays leaking through the driver side glass, we are constantly being affected by UV.
While May is Melanoma month, UV rays can cause more than just cancer. Sunlight is also one of the leading factors when it comes to your skin looking aged. There is no better time to start taking care of your skin than today. To encourage all Middle Tennesseans to protect themselves against UV rays, The Goco Center for Aesthetics is offering 20% off all sunscreen products until May 31st.

On Saturday, April 23, an estimated 100 Saint Thomas Health volunteers served members of the Eagleville community during its Medical Mission at Home event held at Eagleville School. Medical services, including dental, eye care, smoking cessation, mental health and pharmacy services, were provided to nearly 125 individuals who attended the event.
Toothbrushes, toothpaste and prescription eye glasses were collected prior to the event and offered to the community members.
“Our Mission is founded upon the spiritual reality that what we do for the least, we do unto God,” said Timm Glover, vice president for mission integration at MTMC. “We consider it a privilege and sacred trust to be community to the vulnerable and those affected by poverty.”
This was Saint Thomas Health’s fifth Medical Mission at Home event where volunteers serve the under and uninsured throughout local communities. As the 2011 March for Babies walk on May 1 nears, the Dunn family is busy recruiting walkers- and dollars- to support the March of Dimes in their mission to help all babies begin with healthy lives. Jeremy and Crissy Dunn, along with their 1-year-old twins, Lila and Thatcher, are the local ambassador family for this year’s event, because they’ve experienced first-hand the lifesaving impact of March of Dimes research.
“On Jan. 5, 2010, we were 16 weeks 6 days along into the pregnancy when we became suspicious that my water had broken,” says Crissy Dunn. “We went to our physician, Dr. Brad Chesney’s office, and he was in surgery that morning so we were immediately referred to the maternal fetal specialists across town. That afternoon they confirmed that Lila’s amniotic sac had indeed ruptured.”
The Dunn’s went home devastated with the possibility of losing one or both of their babies. Without amniotic fluid, lungs cannot develop properly.
“Dr. Chesney called me that evening and had such grace. He apologized that he had no medicine for me, he could only pray,” says Crissy.
After a lot of prayer, encouragement, and 14 weeks of bed rest, Crissy’s water broke fully on April 10, 2010 at 30 weeks and 3 days. She and Jeremy went to Middle Tennessee Medical Center where neonatologist Dr. Delinda Pearson prepared them for what to expect and shortly after, at 12:18 a.m. Lila Emery Dunn was born at 2.9lbs., followed by Thatcher Goodman Dunn at 12:21 a.m. weighing 3.9lbs.
The twins were placed on a ventilator in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at MTMC for three days, then moved to the nasal cannula where they stayed in the NICU for several weeks. Additional medical complications were resolved, and both babies continued to progress well.
“The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at MTMC, along with the March of Dimes, were wonderful throughout the almost 2-month period the twins were in the hospital. We hold many of the nurses and doctors who gave such sweet care to our little ones very close to our hearts. Ashley Davenport, often our NICU nurse, taught us much about being the new parents of preemies,” says Crissy.
On May 29, 2010, just over two weeks before their original due date of June 16, the Dunn’s were able to bring Lila and Thatcher home, and say they couldn’t be more thrilled.
“God has given us much to be thankful for. The nurses, doctors and everyone we’ve encountered along the way have shown us that God’s grace, combined with the capabilities of medicine, could bring to life our two healthy, beautiful children.”
The Rutherford County March for Babies event, sponsored by Middle Tennessee Medical Center, is Sunday, May 1 on the Middle Tennessee Medical Center campus DePaul building. Registration and activities begin at 1 p.m. and the walk begins at 2 p.m. For more information visitwww.marchforbabies.org.
November 11th is the one day a year that Americans have dedicated to honoring military veterans. Most of us celebrate the holiday by sleeping in late or grilling a couple of burgers. The more patriotic citizens may hang a flag in the yard, but the celebration usually doesn’t go beyond that.
Throughout the history of the United States many men have fought and died to defend this country. We may never be able to give them all the respect they deserve, but we most certainly can show them more support than hanging a flag up one day a year. In an effort to show our support to military veterans in Middle Tennessee, Hobnob is highlighting small business owner and Army Veteran Marc Gritzenbach.
Sixteen years ago, Marc craved a more adventurous life. Marc’s mother had served in the military while he was growing up, and in 1994 Marc decided to follow in her footsteps and join the army.
After going though basic, Marc served seven years as an infantry soldier and did a combat tour in Kosovo. In 2001, Marc left the army to join the reserves. Since then, Marc has served ten years additional years with the military police.
While working with the reserves in Tennessee, Marc completed two combat tours in Iraq. He served the first tour as a Customs Officer and he was involved in Detainee Operations on the second. In Iraqi detainee operations, Marc helped to maintain day to day order in military prisons while still completing law and order combat missions.
Currently Marc Gritzenbach is a squad commander for the 304th Military Police Battalion, but when Marc isn’t on duty with the reserves he brings the same honesty and integrity to a different line of work.
Marc Gritzenbach is also the owner of Jett’s Delivery Service. Jett’s Delivery service is Marc’s answer to all of Middle Tennessee’s courier needs. Owned and operated out of Smyrna Tennessee, Jett’s Delivery will transport your company’s product to anywhere in the country for one flat rate.
Jett’s can handle up to 10,000 pounds of material, and they will make sure it always arrives safely and securely to where it needs to be. Marc’s mission is to offer businesses a more personal relationship with their couriers. Jett’s always treats each customer with the respect his or her product deserves. Currently Jett’s offers their clients rush, same day, overnight, residential, and hot shot service.
After spending 16 years making a difference in the armed forces, Marc is still striving to make his community better with Jett’s Delivery Service. But Marc Gritzenbach is just one of many men and women that have served our country in a time of war. We hope you will join us by supporting the local veterans living in your community, and honoring those that have made the ultimate sacrifice.

We’ve all been to one of those oil changing chains before. You drive fifteen minutes to take the car in. You wait in line for an hour, and then it takes them another thirty minutes to change the oil. After that you have to drive all the way back home and attempt to salvage the rest of your day. If you’re taking care of your car, you have to do that tedious routine three times a year.
But now there’s another option: a better option. Local Middle Tennessee business, Grease Monkeys, offers a high quality oil change that won’t cost you a second of your time, and it won’t cost you a cent more than those conventional chains. The idea is simple. You call Grease Monkeys and tell them when you want to get your oil changed. Then they send out a trained mechanic to your home or business and change your oil while you get on with your life.

Last year, Tennessee was rated by a CDC study as the laziest state in the US. Almost half of residents in Tennessee don’t get the recommended 150 minutes of exercise a week. While this is going on, Heart attack and Stroke are still the number 1 and number 3 killers of Americans each year. Even closer to Murfreesboro, Nashville was rated as the least heart friendly city for women in 2008. It is time to make a change. It is time we band together as a community and stop this epidemic of obesity and cardiac disease, before it affects our children.
National Start Walking Day is hosted around the country on April 6th. National Start Walking Day is an initiative where people start walking 30 minutes a day to help promote healthier living. This week, Middle Tennesee Medical Center will be hosting a local edition to National Star Walking Day at 4pm at the hospital. The walk will start at 4:30, and participants will take a relaxed half mile walk making a pledge to live a healthier, longer life.
MTMC is looking to build on its success last year, where nearly 100 sneakers took part in the pledge for a better life. Walking just 30 minutes a day can drastically reduce your risk for heart disease and obesity. National Start Walking Day is a free initiative to help cure America of its most deadly killer. Whether exercise is a part of your daily routine or not, you can come support your community and your country by joining MTMC’s fight for a healthier America.
National Start Walking Day is at 4pm at MTMC.
