NASHVILLE, TN - On Wednesday and Thursday, December 7th and 8th, the music of Les Miserables will be presented by an assortment of Nashville’s finest, local musicians at the Mercy Lounge in Nashville. The concert is the brainchild of three prominent Nashville musicians, Larissa Maestro (Uncle Skeleton, Poly), Alex Caress (Ponychase, Little Bandit), and Jordan Caress (Ponychase, Tristen, Bobby Bare, Jr.). The trio, long inspired by this beloved musical, decided to interpret the music of Les Mis for rock music and musical theater lovers alike. Drawing from the extraordinary pool of talent available in Music City, the concert will feature the natural voices of prominent local rock and pop performers (with contributions from members of the opera and theater communities). This production does not hinge on Broadway traditions, but, instead, illuminates the emotionally potent content of the story and score. Costumes, professional lighting design, and a full orchestra make this an event more ambitious, powerful, and memorable than any rock show the cast members have presented individually. In the spirit of holiday giving and the unifying power of all music, all proceeds will benefit Youth Empowerment through Arts and Humanities (YEAH)’s Rock and Roll Camps; Southern Girls Rock and Roll Camp, Tennessee Teens Rock Camp, and Rock Block Summer Camp.

BEST NEW MUSIC CAMP FOR KIDS: TENNESSEE TEENS ROCK’N’ ROLL CAMP The best song written about the Deepwater Horizon tragedy in the Gulf of Mexico, you should know, was called “Deepwater Horizon,” and written by a band called Rolling Radiation, who had only existed for a week — they met and formed at the inaugural Tennessee Teens Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp, the new, co-educational offshoot of the venerable Southern Girls Rock ‘n’ Roll Camp. If living in an industry town has made you forget that music is about fun and friendship and nervousness and joy, do us all a favor and send a kid — maybe even your own — to this camp next year. Principal Dr. John Ash and the Rutherford County School Board have approved YEAH!’s use of two classrooms in the annex at Central Magnet School for after school and weekend youth arts education classes.
YEAH!’s year round Rock Block program will begin its first session of 2011 on January 8 in these Central Magnet School classrooms, and young musicians who want to learn to play an instrument in the context of a rock and roll band are invited to join in for the fun! Registration for Rock Block is open now, and you can find more information and sign up by going to the YEAH! website at www.yeahintheboro.org. Rock Block is available to all kids ages 10-17.
YEAH! has also developed a collaborative relationship with The Walnut House of Murfreesboro. Owner Nathan Adam and promoter Chris Wright have generously offered to house YEAH!’s Recording Arts programming and the all ages shows that YEAH! produces for its members, students and the local music community. This collaboration will allow YEAH!’s Rock Block bands access to professional recording studios and professional recording engineers so that they can record their music and have CD’s to sell or to give away to their friends and families. It will also allow YEAH! students to enroll in recording arts classes taught by these professional engineers in these professional recording studios, and will provide a professional, age appropriate venue for YEAH! showcases and all ages shows in which YEAH! students and other local bands can perform.
These collaborative relationships are the hallmark of the local arts community’s newest efforts to thrive in difficult economic times while continuing to provide quality arts programming for young people. It is YEAH!’s goal to invest as much as possible in its programming, its students, and its teachers so that as many young people as possible have the opportunity to learn to express themselves artistically. YEAH!’s collaborations with these community organizations mirror its philosophy of encouraging young artists to work together collaboratively as bands.
YEAH! is a local youth arts organization dedicated to providing experiences in the arts for young people ages 10-17, believing that the arts and performance can empower youth to become creative, productive and confident members of our community. YEAH! strives to create a connected creative community.
