I Could Never....
By Philip A Foster, MA - Life Coach
If you get to know me or at least read my blogs enough you will already know that I try to work out at the gym several times a week.  Well, my trainer wants me there 5 days a week. I tend to get up at 5AM and I am out the door and in the gym by around 5:30AM. What I hear from friends and people who learn this about me is that they "could never do that." My response? "You're right! You could never do that because you haven't decided to do that!" You see, we tolerate all kinds of things and make excuses why we dont do something or go somewhere. What I do know, at least about myself, and have learned about most people I work with is... if you want something bad enough, you will change!

As long as you are willing to tolerate being out of shape... then you will be! As long as you tolerate poor eating habits, etc you will continue to struggle with your health.  Most, not all but most, will ONLY start to make changes after a major life ordeal. I have seen countless people change their eating or exercise habits ONLY after they have had a heart attack or other brush with potential death. Why is it that we need to wait until we are about ready to die that we realize we need to change and do better? I will tell you why... apathy! As I reluctantly state this.. when I was staring down the age of 40, I realized I was out of shape and not happy with my life. I decided it was time to change... I was no longer willing to Tolerate the state of my being. Our bodies are to be the temple of the Holy Spirit yet what we have done is asked the Holy Spirit to stay in a run down filthy shack!

I often tell my clients that when the pain of changing is less intense as the pain of staying where you are ... then, and only then will you stop tolerating where you are. Friends... I only know how to say it one way... get off your duff! Tomorrow is not ours to be promised. You do have the choice... you have so many choices. Will you be like so many of my friends who say I cant do it... or will you say I can? Its up to you... no one else... just you!
