Middle Tennessee Medical Center - Helping those who can’t help themselves

We’ve talked about the importance of taking care of one’s personal health, and Middle Tennessee Medical Center is always there for people who seek medical attention. However, MTMC also provides care for patients without the power to help themselves. Every year the Middle Tennessee Medical Center Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) provides essential care for nearly 400 infants. These babies are severely underweight and require twenty four hour care in order to survive the first months of their lives.

While you may believe that all hospitals can provide an infant with this kind of care, in actuality MTMC is the only hospital in Rutherford County that has a NICU clinic. The Clinic offers care from nurses with advanced certification for treating infants born prematurely, and has sixteen state of the art NICU beds to make sure that every infant has a chance for a long healthy life. While Middle Tennessee Medical Center does offer the highest quality of preemie care in the county, there is always more to be done in the fight for the well being of our future generations.

That is why HobNob Murfreesboro is encouraging all of our readers to participate in the kick off for the March of Dimes Walk for Babies event this Thursday the 17th of February at 5:30pm at the Discovery Center in Murfreesboro. The kick off is a free event designed to teach Rutherford County residents how to get involved in the march of dimes walk on May 1st. Last year’s walk raised nearly 800 thousand dollars locally, and each penny raised helped fund research and care for infants born in Rutherford County. I know that May 1st seems far away, but the walk will be here before you know it. It is important to get involved in making or joining a walk team now, so you will be able to raise the funds in May.

There is nothing more important than the well being of new life, and we hope to see HobNob Readers showing up on the 17th of February at 5:30pm at the Discovery Center to learn more about this chartable event. In the last twenty years premature infant mortality rates have dropped from seventy percent to ten percent. Let’s see if we can keep that number moving in the right direction.
