Middle Tennessee Medical Center Champions: The Mitchell Family
Having a baby is a life changing experience, but even if a pregnancy goes according to plan, bringing new life into the world can be a very stressful ordeal. Families are often so busy during a pregnancy they rarely have time to think about something going wrong. John and Michelle Mitchell were one of these families.
The Mitchell’s had adopted embryos back in May 2010 in order to continue growing their tight-knit family. Shortly after Michelle became pregnant the couple found out they were expecting twins, and during the nine months of their pregnancy everything went according to plan. The Mitchell family came to the MTMC labor and delivery center on February 4th. They were 36 weeks into their pregnancy, just like every other family.
With the Help of Doctor Brad Chesney, John and Michelle Mitchell gave birth to two beautiful baby boys Carson and Reilly Mitchell. However, Carson wasn’t born as healthy as his brother Reilly. Carson Mitchell was born with a set of underdeveloped lungs.
For Carson to grow up and enjoy life with his twin brother, he required immediate medical attention. Luckily for the Mitchell’s, MTMC has one of the most advanced Neonatal Intensive Care Units in the state.
For the next week and a half, Carson would be under the care of the Middle Tennessee Medical Center’s stellar NICU clinic. The Clinic itself offers 24/7 care from nurses with advanced certification in caring for newborns with medical conditions.
This comprehensive care would prove to be imperative when Michelle became very ill with a virus shortly after delivery. While Michelle was being nursed back to health by the MTMC internal medicine team, Carson was resting in a state of the art incubating bed.
Michelle told us that she was initially worried about Carson not being able to know his mother. However, Michelle and John were allowed to visit their son Carson as often as they wanted. And according to Michelle the Mitchells always felt that Carson was, “In the hands of compassionate professionals” when they were away.
Carson and Reilly are now both living a healthy life at home with their parents. The Mitchells never expected complications with their pregnancy, but thanks to the caring staff at MTMC they knew that nothing bad could happen to their beauty baby boy.
So if you are thinking of starting or expanding your family. Remember the hospital that offers the most comprehensive care for your newborn: Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
