Are you a stay-at-home mom? Retired? Want to help animals but cannot adopt one or donate money? On the Fifth Day currently needs volunteers to transport dogs to the vet / clinic and various other activities! We would like to do adoption events, but need help working the event and getting dogs there. We can use help at the sanctuary for various projects, bathing, and playing with the animals. We always need help with fundraisers and tabling! We need people to do home visits before we approve an application. We could also really use someone with experience grant writing! Or, let us know your special skills & talents; I’m sure we can find a way to put them to use.

Name     Gracie
Me: blonde, late night strolls, & southern cooking. You: shady backyard, moderately active, extra large pillows

Gracie was raised with an elderly man and kept on a chain outdoors her entire life.  While she was fed, she didn't get much love and endured hot humid summers as well as freezing cold winters outdoors.  When her former owner died, his children only came by two or three times a week to feed her, never giving her any love or attention.

At 8 years old it didn't take long for her to begin to go down hill.  Fortunately the former owner's children were put in touch with a wonderful woman that agreed to house her until a rescue could be found.  That woman and I have a mutual friend that put us in touch with one another.

Gracie currently weight 75 pounds & desperately needs a foster or adopter so she can get the weight off & prevent future problems, like diabetes & joint issues!

She's very shy and timid, and you'll never hear her bark or see her get excited.  Still shy and totally quiet, she loves affection and is a great dog to have indoors. She doesn't get into anything, doesn't chew or bark. Just wants to lay at your feet and have her head petted once in a while.

Gracie has been wonderful with every other animal we have in our home and with out teen aged daughter.  She's got the thickest, most gorgeous coat I've ever seen on a dog.  It's so thick we're thinking of cutting a 'bridle path' through it for her collar, but the thought of taking of that beautiful hair has kept the clippers in the cabinet.  She is a leash chewer though, so you can't put her on one unsupervised.  Because of how much time she likes to be outdoors, we prefer she go to a home with a secure physical barrier fence.  Gracie would be great in any home!

Gracie's adoption fee is $150 and will include all vaccinations, spay, current on all parasite preventatives and housebroken either complete or at least started.

We don't know why Dooley wound up in a shelter, but when we went to save some dogs, the staff insisted we take him.  They were all so in love with this little guy and we see why!  He's very affectionate and playful and gets along great with people of all ages and all types of other animals.  His best friend is Amy (another puggle) and they spend a great deal of time playing together.  Dooley is a smart guy and has taught himself to climb out of the exercise pens at our adoption events, so he can't be left in a fenced yard unattended for his own safety.

Robin was brought to us by a local couple that found him & Batman at the trash dump. He needs a home that will take the time to show him love, as he shows signs of physical abuse and will need time to trust you. Every loud noise makes him jump. He is a small medium size dog. He is so shy around people that young children wouldn't be a good idea. He lets children pet him & has never once tried to bite anyone out of fear, but loud & wild children may be too much for him. He is a very sweet dog, though!

I have the power to eliminate sadness & loneliness. Do you need me like I need you?

Batman is a small size dog and will need room to run and play. He is a very sweet and loving dog and loves being around people. He was rescued in McMinnville; he shows signs of physical abuse. He will need a loving home that will take the time to show him love and will treat him right. He does well with other dogs & will be a great family dog. He loves being around people and being loved on. Batman can jump a 5 foot fence...he may be climbing them (he is Batman, after all), but he will need a tall privacy fence, constant outside supervision, or some other method of confinement.

Alvin was pulled from a kill shelter in rural KY.  He's very sweet and nearly fully housebroken.  We don't know his history; he was brought in as a stray.  He does however have scar tissue on the bottom of his throat.  This makes us think he had a collar embedded that did damage to his larynx as a baby.

Alvin is still pretty young - about a year old.  He's on the small side for medium dogs or the large side for small dogs; maybe 15 or 20 pounds.  He's very active and loves to play.  Extremely friendly and outgoing and never meets a stranger, whether it be human or animal.  He love squeaky toys and balls to play fetch.

We had to guess at his breed and came up with beagle and cattle dog.  But if you ask me, he's 100% pure bred Kentucky Brown Dog.  I've pulled a few dogs from this shelter now and they all seem to look similar.  Brown with black tips.  Short, usually a bit long.  They all seem to have mostly beagle in them with some cattle dog, but also maybe just a drop of chow and german shepherd.  His true genetic make up will probably never be known, but we do know he's full of love and desperately wants a family that he can share it with.  Would that be you?

Alvin is UTD on vaccinations and neutered.  He is parasite free and current on preventatives.
