On Tuesday, February 21st, the Murfreesboro Youth Orchestra will take their performance on the road and showcase their talent at area schools. The Music-to-Go Tour is an annual event that brings orchestral literature to elementary school students in the Rutherford County area. The orchestra will begin this year’s tour with a concert at Bradley Academy, located at 511 Mercury Boulevard. They will move on to Erma Siegel Elementary School, located at 135 West Thompson Lane and end the afternoon at Scales Elementary, located at 2340 St. Andrews Drive.
The Music-to-Go Tour introduces children to live orchestral performances at no charge to the children. The tour is designed to get children excited about music and give them the opportunity to experience a live orchestral performance. The students learn about all of the sections of the orchestra and are exposed to music from different cultures through the orchestra’s performance and interaction with the students. The Murfreesboro Youth Orchestra members range in ages from 9 – 18 years old. The members of the orchestra provide a positive role model for the younger children who want to get involved in music.
The Murfreesboro Youth Orchestra is always dedicated to providing quality educational experiences for the children of Rutherford County and surrounding areas. The Music-to-Go Tour is another way for the orchestra to achieve its mission.
On Saturday, December 17th, at 7:30 pm, some of the most talented students in Middle Tennessee will hit the stage in the T. Earl Hinton Music Hall on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University. The Murfreesboro Youth Orchestra program will be hosting its fall concert for which the students have spent the entire semester preparing.
The concert will feature all three of the orchestras involved in the program. The Preparatory String Orchestra will start the concert with pieces by J.S. Bach and Maurice Ravel. The newly formed Jazz Orchestra will make its debut appearance and play pieces by such greats as Charlie Parker. The Youth Orchestra will complete the concert with fantastic pieces by Dvorak and Smetana.
The Murfreesboro Youth Orchestra has been a part of the Rutherford County community for almost 15 years, providing quality educational experiences in music for the students of Rutherford and surrounding counties. Tickets are $10 at the door. For more information, please visit their website at www.myorchestra.org.
