Johnny B. and the Balladeers, a popular local band featuring John Blankenship, Avent Lane, Ken and Sarah Frizzell and Billy Yearwood, will be appearing on the first Thursday of every month, beginning Thursday, February 2, 2012, at UnCorked, to benefit Youth Empowerment through Arts & Humanities, Inc.  The concerts will begin at 5:00 p.m. and last until 7:00 p.m., and business people, shoppers, and early and late diners alike are invited to join in the fun for the cause of the arts for young people ages 10-17.   There will be no cover, but a small suggested donation to YEAH will be encouraged and greatly appreciated.  UnCorked, a wine and tapas bar, will be serving its delicious and unique menu of small bites and delicious wines and beverages; and Johnny B. and the Balladeers will be playing their favorite music for all comers.

Johnny B and the Balladeers have been playing old timey country music together for many years now, and blended their instruments and voices together for the first time at Miller’s Grocery in Christiana, where they appeared every Friday night for several years.  They are currently appearing at the Readyville Mill every Saturday morning.  Their Americana repertoire spans from the American standards of Stephen Foster to classic folk, country western, rock and roll, blues and their own unique original tunes.   And their comedic and jovial interactions with the audience make for fun and light hearted enjoyment for all.

On Friday February 17th, Tennessee Teens Rock Camp (TNTRC) will hosta benefit Prom at the 5 Spot in East Nashville featuring live music from the Kansas Bible Company, Jason Elkridge, and Jason Thomas, followed by DJ sets from Matt Smith and Chris Doubler. Tickets cost $7 at the door, but attendees who come dressed in prom-wear get a discounted price of $4. Doors open at 9 and music begins at 9:30.

There will be a Valentine’s photo both, courtesy of Steve Cross, and at the end of the night, a prom king and queen will be nominated and crowned by the audience. Winners will receive prizes from local Nashville businesses. All proceeds go to benefit the Tennessee Teens Rock Camp Scholarship Fund, a charitable, need-based program committed to securing camp admission for every child who wishes to experience Rock Camp, regardless of financial ability or economic status.

The Tennessee Teens Rock Camp is a weeklong day camp that focuses on empowering teens through music. John Blankenship is a local attorney, mediator and arbitrator, as well as an actor, singer, songwriter and instrumentalist.  Avent Lane is an oft sought after bassist of great versatility who has played with the likes of Kitty Wells and Johnny Wright, Mac Wiseman and Vassar Clements.  Billy Yearwood began playing the mandolin at age 7 (75 years ago!) and has played throughout the state with many musicians, including the original Oak Ridge Quartet.  Billy performed on WLAC radio for many years.   Ken and Sarah Frizzell have spent their retirement years singing and playing at miscellaneous venues such as Miller’s Grocery for eleven years, churches, and every nursing home and senior citizen’s centers in Manchester, Woodbury and Murfreesboro.  Ken also had the privilege of square-dancing on the Grand Ole’ Opry with the Stoney Mountain Cloggers.

UnCorked is a wine and tapas bar owned by Maple Street Grill owners Mike and Debbie Zelenak and is located on the square, upstairs above Maple Street Grill.

Murfreesboro, TN - The creators of the Southern Girls Rock n’ Roll Camp, Youth Empowerment through Arts and Humanities (YEAH!) presents Rock Block Summer Camp (RBSC), a co-ed music day camp offered as an extension of YEAH’s year-round Rock Block program that emphasizes learning music through collaborating and performing with a band. The week-long camp will take place at the McFadden School of Excellence from June 13-18 in Murfreesboro.

RBSC is a summer day camp for girls and boys ages 10-17. RBSC’s mission is to support a culture of positive self-esteem and collaboration among young people while building community through music.
Campers participate in five days of band practice, supported by volunteer Band Managers, as well as a daily group workshops. Workshops include Recording and Songwriting, and on one day all bands will get a chance to design and print their own t-shirts. On Saturday, all campers will perform in a showcase for friends, family, and community members.

Tuition for RBSC is $180.  Siblings of any registered campers receive a $25 discount on tuition, and anyone can get a $15 discount by referring a friend to any of YEAH!’s summer programs.  More information is available on the registration page of the website. Murfreesboro, TN - The Southern Girls Rock and Roll Camp (SGRRC), a music day camp for girls ages 10-17, is launching a fundraising contest through the online fundraising site Go Fund Me in order to cover an increased scholarship demand.  SGRRC has turned to the community to ask for help raising funds for the Adopt-a-Camper Scholarship Program and they are offering a brand new 16GB iPAD2 to the person who raises the most money.  The contest ends Friday, July 29, 2011 and the winner will be announced at the annual SGRRC Saturday Showcase at Siegel High School.

SGRRC offers an unlimited number of need-based scholarships, and due to the recent economic downturn, SGRRC has seen a large increase in scholarship requests.  SGRRC has made a commitment to not turn away a single camper in need and has launched the iPad Fundraising Contest in order to help meet the increased scholarship demand.

SGGRC will take place at Middle Tennessee State University this year from July 25-30. The mission of SGRRC is to support a culture of positive self-esteem and collaboration among girls while building community through music. During one week of the summer, 90 young women attend instrument instruction, participate in workshops such as Screenprinting, Music HERstory, and Recording, as well as attend daily live performances from a local, professional bands. Campers also form their own bands, with whom they practice every afternoon of camp in preparation for the Saturday Night Showcase.

Southern Girls Rock and Roll Camp (SGRRC) is YEAH!’s flagship camp celebrating its 9th year this summer. It takes place in the Wright Music Building at Middle Tennessee State University, and is an all-girl camp. Looking for an awesome summer camp to send your child to? Youth Empowerment through Arts and Humanities has three. The first of our Rock'n Roll  Summer Camps starts June 13 at McFadden School and the best news is that it's only $180 for the entire week!

If your child has an interest in music, rock n roll, guitar, drums, keyboards and all things ROCK! Then you should totally check out this camp. Rock Block Summer Camp is an extension of YEAH!'s year round music education program "Rock Block". Kids don't need any experience to participate, just the drive and desire to learn.

Southern Girls Rock and Roll Camp is a summer day camp in Murfreesboro TN, held at MTSU each summer that focus's on empowering young women to be the best they can be. In the course of one week, girls ages 10-17 are placed in a band, learn to play *no experience necessary, take classes in all aspects of being a girl powered band, and at the end of the week perform at a live venue in front of their fans! This experience has helped several hundred girls since its inception in 2002 realize their dreams of being Rock Stars!, even if only for one week. You can read the SGRRC "herstory" here.
