The two businessmen have built Reeves-Sain into a major force in health care and pharmaceutical services since they acquired the Reeves-Powell Pharmacy in 1995. Now entering its 32nd year in the pharmacy business, Reeves-Sain has built its success on exceptional customer service, innovative product lines and charming touches that are standards of excellence since the beginning of the pharmacy.
The multi-million dollar company now has more than 190 employees over multiple divisions, including 19 pharmacists and clinical staff that believe in ongoing education, serving all the major hospitals and, most recently, opening a retail operation within Middle Tennessee Medical Center.
In addition to its core prescription and compounding business, the company is delivering infusion products and services throughout middle Tennessee, providing respiratory and medical equipment and specialized diabetes products, and serving the needs of long-term care centers across the state. Reeves-Sain has also pioneered new pharmacy programs, such as the distinctive MediPACK system for managing medications and a line of pharmaceutical vitamins and supplements.
In the past year, Reeves-Sain opened their newest center, the Wellness Pharmacy Center, expanding the company’s services in the realm of hormone replacement therapy. In 1998, Reeves-Sain was awarded Tennessee’s Student Preceptors of the Year by the University of Tennessee for excellence in student training. Reeves-Sain has received numerous awards for innovation from the Tennessee Pharmacist Association (TPA), the Nashville Business Journal, and Caregiver Magazine, which honored the company with a national Caregiver Innovation Award for its MediPACK product.
Shane Reeves is a graduate of Middle Tennessee Christian School and Oakland High School. He earned his undergraduate degree from Middle Tennessee State University and a Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee. He has been recognized as Tennessee’s Young Pharmacist of the Year and still serves as a volunteer faculty member for the University of Tennessee and as a member of the Tennessee Pharmacist Association.
He has served as past Chairman for the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, past-president for Leadership Rutherford and past chairman of Tennessee’s National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) leadership council. In 2005, Reeves was honored as Tennessee’s small business champion by NFIB. Shane has also been active in the Blue Raider Athletic Association, Alzheimer’s Association (past Memory Walk Corporate Chair), American Heart Association, American Cancer Society and Leadership Middle Tennessee. Reeves serves as a deacon at the North Boulevard Church of Christ. He and his wife, Amanda, live in Murfreesboro with their three children, Will, Jack & Emma-White.
Rick Sain, a native of Bell Buckle, Tenn., received his Doctorate of Pharmacy from the University of Tennessee after completing his pre-pharmacy work at MTSU. He was an intern for the Reeves-Powell Pharmacy and stayed on after completing the internship, subsequently purchasing the business with Shane Reeves. Active throughout the pharmacy community, Sain has been honored as Tennessee Young Pharmacist of the Year, the Retail Pharmacy Management Services National Pharmacist of the Year and the UT College of Pharmacy Preceptor of the Year. In addition, Sain has served as President of the Tennessee Pharmacists Association and currently sits on the Association’s board of directors. He was also selected to serve on the State of Tennessee’s Department of Labor Medical Care & Cost Containment Committee and the University of Tennessee’s National Alumni Association Board of Governors.
Locally, Sain has served as a past Director of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, as well as a member of the Rutherford County Convention and Visitors Bureau and has remained involved for more than 25 years. He served as an original member of the Murfreesboro Gateway Commission, is past president of the Murfreesboro Breakfast Rotary Club and a former board member of the Middle Tennessee Medical Center Foundation, and is a member of Fellowship United Methodist Church. Creating a winning business plan was the “holy grail” for 38 middle school students in the 2011 State Farm Summer Business Camp, “Business Quest,” July 11-22nd. The worthy knights? Austen George, Megan Starling, Madison McGill, and Kory Cooke.
These four middle school students were the winners of the 2011 State Farm Summer Business Camp business plan competition for their ice cream shop business idea, “Swirly Top.” Each student received a iPad as their grand prize.
Funded by State Farm and administered by the Business Education Partnership Foundation, the camp teaches students how to become entrepreneurs by creating their own business concepts in teams. At the end of the two weeks, the students present their team business plans to a panel of judges, who questioned and evaluated the potential viability of the proposals.
Like all great quests, the students learned that business is not for the faint of heart.
“The middle school students learn in two weeks what many college students take one to two years to learn in their courses,” said BEP executive director Lee Rennick. “Because of all the information we give them, they have to process quickly and figure out how to use the information to write up a viable business plan.”
Students were joined on their quest by business leaders all over Rutherford County. Volunteers from State Farm led workshops on public speaking, finances, and computer literacy. Representatives from the Chamber of Commerce, Middle Tennessee Medical Center, Barnes and Noble, World Outreach Church, Old Fort Park Golf Club, MidSouth Bank, Nissan, State Farm, and other businesses coached students on creating financial, marketing and human resource plans, as well as developing a code of ethics and mission and vision statements. Students also toured a variety of establishments to learn how business models differed in management, production, and service methods.
“It’s a strenuous time for the students, but it is remarkable what they can accomplish,” said Rennick. “We are grateful to State Farm and the business community for making this camp possible. Their investment is preparing students to be future business leaders in a powerful way.”
For more information on this and the BEP's other programs, visit the BEP website at www.rutherfordbep.org/businesscamp.

“We encourage businesses to bring free samples, specialty giveaways and coupons to give students,” said Gina Poff, director of the Office of New Student and Family Programs. “The students really enjoy the event, and in past years we have had vendors tell us they gave away as many as 5,000 items per day.”

Murfreesboro, TN - Success of the Business Education Partnership (BEP) Foundation’s event “Arts for Education: An International Evening” will allow local teachers to step outside their classrooms this summer for additional training. According to BEP Director Lee Rennick, the event raised more than $20,000; proceeds will fund summer professional development academies for teachers of third through twelfth grade students as they further examine the application of math, science and technology curriculum to the world outside the classroom. Profits from the event are slated for the “BC3 Academy” and “Professor Buzzo Discovery Academy”.
The two-year-old event’s evening was made even more exciting with a generous $50,000 grant from presenting sponsor Nissan North America, which will enable the BEP to provide teachers with mini-grants to use on classroom projects representing ideas above and beyond the scope of their required curriculum. These grants of up to $500 per teacher are awarded each semester; teachers must apply during the months of January and August to be eligible.
Stephanie Valdez Streaty, Senior Manager, Philanthropy and Diversity Communications, Nissan North America, spoke of Nissan’s support for the BEP: "One of Nissan's key giving priorities is education. Our partnership with the BEP allows us to focus not only on K-12 education, but on the arts as well through events such as 'An International Evening'. Nissan's global vision is to enrich people's lives, and we feel that we can play a part in that locally through supporting education and the arts for children," she said.
BEP Board Member Cathi Rowlison was pleased with the turnout. “We are so grateful to all our guests and sponsors as well as to everyone who donated items for the auction. It’s wonderful to see people in the community supporting education initiatives. We are already thinking about next year’s event,” she said.
Teachers who wish to apply for either academy should visit www.rutherfordbep.org; deadline for applications is Friday, April 29th. For more information on the Business Education Partnership, visit the website or call Lee Rennick at (615) 278-2008.
