What is FriendSupport? FriendSupport raises money for families and individuals with extreme medical expenses. FriendSupport was born out of the love of friends. Initially the group came together to host a benefit golf tournament for a friend incurring overwhelming medical expenses while being treated for cancer. Due to the success and community support of that event, the group decided to continue to raise money for others in need. FriendSupport officially became a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 2011.

The mission of FriendSupport is to provide an avenue of communication through its website, events and fundraisers where individuals and families can connect and support their friends and loved ones dealing with illness or tragedy. Specifically, their mission is to:

Distribute funds to individuals applying for financial assistance in the following situations:

Extraordinary Medical Expenses due to illness or tragedy;

Lodging Accommodation Assistance where spouses or immediate family members are incurring overnight stay expenses traveling to a medical facility where the patient is staying or receiving services outside 100 miles of the family residence; and

College Scholarship Awards to students whose parent or family member has experienced illness, financial crisis or a life-changing event.

Provide free web pages or websites to those in need or to support groups;

Coordinate financial contributions, volunteering efforts and in-kind donations from individuals, families and companies.

FriendSupport is in the process of raising funds to accomplish its mission and goals for this year. The group is accepting applications from people who meet the criteria as outlined in its mission statement. Applications for financial assistance and for college assistance are both available to download at www.friendsupport.org. The deadline to apply for college assistance is April 1st.
