United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties 2009-2010 Community Celebration
MURFREESBORO, TN - HobNobMurfreesboro joined the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties while they hosted the 2009-2010 Community Celebration on Tuesday, March 9 at 11:30 a.m. at the World Outreach Church.
Over 200 community members came to show their support for the local non-profit organization event sponsored by Alexander Automall, Regions Bank and the Daily News Journal.
The celebration recognized all who contributed to the 2009 campaign, as well as announced the campaign total for the year.
Andrew Oppman, President and Publisher of the Daily News Journal, and the 2009 Campaign Chair for the United Way, was the Master of Ceremonies for the event.
The fundraising goal for 2009 was $2.8 million, and the campaign total reported an impressive $2.3 million, over eighty percent.
“Six months ago in the Stones River mall parking lot, we kicked off this Campaign,” Oppman said.
“And I am so proud of the community for responding with such passion for those who need help.”
Several members of the audience were acknowledged for their dedication to the campaign and the organization including “Loaned Executives,” all contributors, past board members, and the United Ways’ media partners from the community.
The awards ceremony honored numerous United Way affiliates for their outstanding performance in 2009. The recipients of these awards were the Top Ten Campaigns and Best Overall Performance in various categories.
The United Way Witherspoon Award was bestowed to Doctors Russ and Sherry Galloway for their outstanding service to the organization.
Oppman concluded the ceremony by showing his gratitude to all for their help and commitment in the 2009 campaign endeavor.
“This was the most successful campaign ever,” Oppman said.
The crowd answered back with a hardy applause and a standing ovation.
