Three public events at MTSU with potential for large audiences are scheduled Wednesday night, Feb. 8, which may require students, staff and visitors to plan ahead for parking and travel on the campus.

At 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor will deliver this year’s Windham Lecture in the Hinton Music Hall inside the Wright Music Building. Seating will be limited and available on a first-come, first served basis.

At 7 p.m., the Lady Raiders basketball team will face longtime rival Western Kentucky University in Murphy Center.

And at 7:30 p.m., Actors from the London Stage, a five-member troupe, will perform the first of three performances of William Shakespeare’s “Twelfth Night” in the Tucker Theatre.

Doors to the Hinton Music Hall, site of Justice O’Connor’s lecture, will open at 5:45 p.m. If demand exceeds the hall’s 380-seat capacity, a nearby 200-seat overflow room with closed-circuit TV viewing will be opened elsewhere in the Wright Music Building. People in the overflow room will receive a numbered ticket, which will be used to offer seats in the main hall that become available before the lecture.

No backpacks or large bags will be allowed inside Hinton Music Hall, and small purses and bags will be searched before entry.

The three venues—Murphy Center, the Wright Music Building and the Tucker Theatre—are fairly close to each other, which means demand for parking in the Faulkinberry Drive area will be high, said Ron Malone, MTSU’s assistant vice president for events and transportation services.

“We will be restricting access to the Nursing Lot, north of the Cason-Kennedy Nursing Building, and the Jones Field Lot, south of the baseball field, to serve only those attending the Windham Lecture event,” Malone said.

“Attendants will be in place to monitor and allow access to those lots. Evening faculty and students who usually use those lots are encouraged to park in the white-decal lots on Founders Lane.”

Malone said those planning to attend the first “Twelfth Night” production to park in the Rutherford Boulevard gravel lot. Arrangements have been made for a special event shuttle to transport theatergoers both before and after the production.
