Bon Voyage!” is the theme of MTSU’s spring 2012 Student Design Fashion Show slated for 7 p.m. Saturday, April 21, in the Tennessee Room of the James Union Building.
Entries will be divided into three categories: “Jetsetter,” for luxury travel wear; “Stylish Splash,” for beachwear and sportswear; and “Summer Nights,” for glamorous evening gowns appropriate for cruises and/or resorts.Dr. Jasmin Kwon, assistant professor in the Department of Human Sciences, says this cruise/resort collection created by students in her fashion promotion class, TXMD 3110, will include vacation-ready fashions inspired by dreams of “the lifestyle of traveling from one stylish or exotic place to another via private aircraft.”
Students must submit their designs March 26-29 with a final deadline of 6 p.m., Thursday, March 29, in Room 104 of the Ellington Health Sciences Building. Designers are limited to a maximum of five garment entries per person.
The winners will receive prizes and scholarships sponsored by Singer Sewing Company, the MTSU student organization Fashion & Design Students and the MTSU Textiles, Merchandising and Design Program.
General admission is $15, and VIP admission is $30. Seating will begin at 6:30 p.m.

Accessory favorite Versona and on-trend Wet Seal to open before holidays; Glowgolf opening soon
Murfreesboro, TN - Shopping. Centered on You. That’s what Stones River Mall is all about. With two new fashion retailers set to open for the holidays and new expanded entertainment options coming soon, Stones River Mall is adding to its shopper-friendly reputation as hub for not only shopping, but also dining and entertainment.
At the top of the list of fashionable additions is teen favorite Wet Seal. The California-based company is a leading specialty retailer of contemporary apparel for teen girls and young adults, featuring on-trend collections of fashion tops, dresses, shoes, denim, accessories and more at affordable prices. Wet Seal is planning to open in time for holiday dressing and gifting. The 3,900 square-foot store will be located near the Food Court.
Also slated to open during the holidays is Versona Accessories, a new women’s specialty retailer of jewelry and accessories, accented by key apparel items. The retailer boasts an upscale shopping environment where women can find all the necessities to complete an outfit, including jewelry, handbags, belts, scarves, hair accessories, sunglasses, footwear and more. Versona will occupy 8,842 square feet outdoors in lifestyle promenade, The Shops at Stones River, and will be among the first ten new stores nationwide.
Visitors to Stones River Mall will score some wholesome fun when Glowgolf opens this Friday, August 19. The glow-in-the-dark mini golf offers rounds of fun and inexpensive entertainment for all ages. Excellent for groups, small parties or just a twosome, players enjoy a round of miniature golf under a blacklight -- even the balls glow. Glowgolf will be located near Sears and the Food Court.
In other entertainment news, longtime favorite at Stones River Mall, Chuck E. Cheese’s is expanding its current location at the main entrance to the shopping center beginning late August, adding 2,100 square feet of entertainment space. When completed, the popular party place will offer even more of its wholesome environment with games, food and fun for kids of all ages. Chuck E. Cheese’s plans to remain open during construction.

Smyrna, TN - Local models will be hitting the catwalk to help four-legged felines, canines and other homeless pets.
Maurices will host a fashion show on Sunday, September 26 at maurices Store. The show starts at 3:00 pm, featuring models wearing maurices' fall fashions. The goal is to raise support for animal shelters and help increase pet adoptions.
"This campaign is called Rescues & Runways and maurices stores across the country are involved, in partnership with the ASPCA (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals)," explained maurices Store Manager Wendi Craven. "It's a great way to create awareness of the need for pet adoptions and to raise supplies and financial support for our local shelter."
The campaign continues throughout the month of September. Every morning I fight with my 2 year old daughter, Layne, about what she is going to wear for the day. She normally wins because I give in just so I can get the where I need to be on time. Layne normally wears a few shirts with a dress and tights or several pairs of pants or maybe both. When it comes to fashion, she has a mind of her own.
I took this picture of her on the way home from the YMCA after a morning of fighting with her because she wanted to wear her Christmas dress and snow boots in March; but as you can see she won AGAIN.
I couldn’t help but to take her picture as we were sitting at a red light. She is my little Madonna with a mix of Cindi Lauper. This picture makes me smile.

In nearly every store you visit, upon checkout the cashier asks if you would like to be on their email list to receive special offers. I am not one to give my email address out casually, but there are multiple occasions where it has saved me money.
I am a creature of habit, and if you are like me you have your favorite stores too. I saw this week’s piece in Ann Taylor Loft a few weeks ago, but with snow still on the ground I refused to pay full price for shorts. I kept checking back, but with every visit the shorts were still priced at $39.50. I had pretty much given up on them until I got an email saying they were half off for the weekend. I went and bought them that day.
Although it might be a few more weeks before I can wear them, I am super excited about these printed shorts. I usually avoid wearing shorts at all, seeing as you typically get two options- up to the cheek or down to the knee- and neither are flattering. These are the perfect length, and I can’t wait to sport them with a tee shirt or button down.
